Research into the various depictions of Tolkien’s work

Peter Jackson’s live action trilogy adaptation is by far the most popular adaption and for many is the only look they have ever taken into Middle earth and the characters that inhabit it. These films take a gritty, more serious approach to the world and try to make it more believable, excluding some of the more outlandish elements from the books such as incredibly tall trees and Gollum’s eyes that are described in the books as being so beady and bright that they can light up a dark area. The latter two films are both rated 12 but both depict adult themes and can be enjoyed by almost anyone. Continue reading “Research into the various depictions of Tolkien’s work”

Project proposal

For this project I will study and depict the world of J. R. R. Tolkien as I see it and as it is described my Tolkien himself. I will use several different mediums to do this which will require me to learn new skills such as Photoshop and painting. In particular, I am hoping to capture the strange mood of Tolkien’s world as depicted in his book The lord of the rings as it delves into more detail than it’s predecessor “The Hobbit” whilst still remaining more madcap than “The Silmarillion”. Accomplishing this with multiple mediums would be ideal; in both experimentation and final pieces. This concept relates to my interest in fantasy literature and more specifically, the worlds that the stories are told in. The concept further relates as I would also be interested in creating a dungeon synth album and some writings of my own in a similar vein to Tolkien’s work. Continue reading “Project proposal”

Varying art styles in modern video games (Comparative essay)

An essay that I wrote about visual art styles in today’s games over Christmas, I would like to adapt it into a video essay in the same vein of Nerdwriter1’s videos on art, film and music; eventually.

Dishonoured

Dishonoured is a first person stealth action game created by Arcane studios and published by Bethesda in 2012. It is a steampunk game with an alternate history twist and a dark, mature atmosphere. Because of this, Dishonoured is rated an 18+ and is aimed at adults who prefer a slower based and more methodical style of action game. However the game  is not very realistic as it has plenty of magic and advance technology, I think this led the designers to give the game an oil painting art style to make the world feel less real and more fantastical.

Crafting my signature

Every time I sign a paper, my signature looks wildly different to my previous signature and the one that follows it. I have been meaning to craft a signature that I use consistently for a while now but now that I have started this blog, I will get to it.

Say what you will about Wikihow but it has never failed me before and it will not fail me now! To get me started I followed the advice given in this article and also looked through these three tips. Continue reading “Crafting my signature”

Illuminate 2018

The Illuminate festival was an inspirational art installation, it was a big event and many of the organisers and artists involved were previously PCA students. I rarely attend events but this showed me what can be accomplished with mostly abstract pieces. One person could not have accomplished this, sound, sculpture, projection, lighting were all used to great effect, the teams involved would have had to communicate to get everything completed by the deadline.
