Four experiments

First experiment

This is a useful opportunity to experiment with origami, to tie it into my phobia theme I will create a shark as they are the subject of a phobia, selachophobia, the irrational fear of sharks, even harmless ones. I have not done this before so I will need to watch or read a tutorial.

After looking through some other videos, I settled on this Origami shark tutorial.

This was easier and more enjoyable than I had expected, It would have been even easier if I had not used such thick paper, If I use origami in a future project then I will be sure to use origami paper which I was previously oblivious to; that’s the most significant result of this experiment. The paper was also not quite as square as it ought to have been resulting in a rather wonky tail.

I think I botched this particular step which caused me problems in the later stages.

Second experiment

I was going to edit an image with Photoshop for this but I just saw an opportunity for a good photo although I am probably the only person that could appreciate it. It’s blurry because I took the photo so hastily, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity. I think I felt inclined to take the photo because I felt strange in the atmosphere of the library. I wanted to do it because I had not done it before, a mostly unproductive experiment but I’m glad I tried it.

Heres the photo of the atmosphere as the man stood still packing his things.

Third experiment

Since I am in the library, I could try choosing a random book from the online index and reading a, yet again random, number of pages between 1-10. I will have nothing visual to show for it but I find the thought compelling.

I will ask someone to write a number between 1-20 (It would be better to read more) as well as 2 letters, I will choose the first book to appear on the list.

I just asked a guy 2 seats down and he wrote this…

He chose the second highest number… could there be a higher power laughing at me? This experiment has really gone south, I hope “R A” makes for a good book..”

I was greatly distracted by this song, I would love to create some doom metal myself, I just abandoned the blog for a while and researched black magic and witchcraft whilst listening to these fuzzy tunes, maybe I could incorporate this accursed vibe into some visual art later on.

I just realised that I do not have a page number to start on so I will randomly generate one.

Fortunately, the book that chance gave me “Bells miniature series of painters: Watts” is an aptly miniature book. This has been quite the adventure.

This book was in the silent reading section sand was not available for loaning, I had to read it in the library but I did not have the time. I overcame this problem by scanning the pages to my email before reading them at home.

Must stop reading The lord of the rings and get more work done…

Page 38 gave a telling analysis of the piece. If nothing else, the nineteen pages expanded my vocabulary.

Fourth experiment

Finally I wanted to experiment with typography as I have never dedicated an entire page to it before. I just wrote Electric wizard song titles in experimental fonts. I would like to try calligraphy in the near future but other than that, I am not particularly interested in lettering. Three dimensional typography would be very interesting though.
