Evaluation

The final show is only days away and at long last I have completed my final major project… but how did it go? Firstly, I must make it clear that I am proud of my final major project, I surpassed my expectations, painting five miniatures, two more than I and my tutor originally aimed for. I am also satisfied with the painting on each and every one, I will certainly be keeping them around my living space for years to comel something I doubt many other students can say about their work and far more than I can say for the other work that built up to this final, ambitious piece. Evaluating the message and conceptual angle to this piece makes it clear that it is the weakest side of the coin.

Despite this, I did still turn those old model warriors into something that would impress my younger self, I would even go a step further by saying I’ve impressed my current self too. Although that marks a success in my books, I do doubt that my piece will inspire many gallery-goers and, if taking a conceptual art approach, would be panned for its unremarkable statement on the shifting value of the world around us with the passage of time.

I have only finished painting a single other miniature before this project, that makes six in total including the final major project meaning I had to amass a great sum of knowledge to make my final piece possible, I used online video tutorials, blogs and miniature painting websites to do this. I do not plan on miniature painting much in the future because the process was *extremely* time consuming and often frustrating but I would consider it a skill learned. I can now miniature paint. This was a target for the end of the project and a satisfying conclusion to the project.

If I was to tackle this project again then I would be more sociable with my peers, having people to talk to about the project would give me more motivation to attend college, the lack of which was a dreadful mistake this year, as well as allowing me to develop new ideas with creative people. I would have enjoyed the year as a whole more if I had socialized.

In conclusion, this has been the most satisfying unit so far on a personal level, myself and my skills have grown, I have enjoyed the independent work ethic of the final major project more than the team work and peer feedback more prominent in past units. The pressure of having my work displayed in a gallery also motivated me to work more diligently even more so than the introduction of the pass, merit and distinction grading tiers. It has been a challenging, advantageous journey that I will not forget any time soon.
